Presentation and goals

The Second European Congress, Sports and Intellectual Disability, is a social, sports, and pedagogic event, and it will turn to be the meeting point for the best European specialists in physical activity for intellectually disabled people. The activities relating this Congress are organized by means of a three broad topics structure to get to meet the specific needs of every people attending the Congress. Being aimed to associations and technicians; athletes and their relatives; researchers, specialists, and collaborating people, the celebration of this Congress sums up a broad range offer, in a way through which, without doubt, every participant will find topics of interest in the Scientific or Sports Schedule, and in the Social Exhibition. Being organized jointly by Special Olympics Catalunya, and the Faculty of Education Sciences of the University of Lleida, the Second European Congress, Sports and Intellectual Disability, includes the Eighth Edition of the Conference Society and Childhood, which the Faculty celebrates since 1994, and that this year is focused on sports, childhood, and disability.

Being Lleida in 2008 the Sports European City, the celebration of this Congress within the frame of the commemorating acts held in Lleida is one of its main attractions. The main goals of the Second European Congress, Sports and Intellectual Disability, are:

Analyzing, condensing, and spreading the last contributions to the movement Special Olympics regarding sports and disability.

Analyzing the European scenario of the adapted sports, and recognizing its main orientations, proposals, ways of working, and sponsorships.

Discussing among every participating agent the need and the possibility of designing new projects to give an answer to the future challenges for adapted sports.

Creating a space for relations and work among different territories and areas, always counting on with the will to collaborate with all the bodies aimed to sports, and to intellectually disabled people.
